a meditation on psalm 51 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; restore within me a sense of being brand new. 11 Do not throw me far away from Your presence, and do not remove Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Give back to me the deep delight of being saved by You; let Your willing Spirit sustain me. The other day, I completely destroyed a beautiful steak. I wish I was using destroyed as a hip alternative to devoured, but I'm using it to lessen the reality that I ruined it. Sometimes my novice-chef self wants to perfectly season, marinate, and cook. So I research and shop, searching for the combination to unlock the best steak ever.
I often forget one of the wisest lessons for preparing steak, just let the steak shine; don't worry about adding things that may take away from the goodness of the steak itself. This same advice has served me well in ministry, as well. There is a temptation at times to become overly clever in unpacking a passage of Scripture when all that is necessary is to let the passage shine.
May the simple goodness of Psalm 51 edify you this day. - Rev. Carl Anderson
